Maps that take privacy seriously
Whenever you integrate a map, you are also integrating a third-party service. This page sets out openly which data is transferred in the process – and which isn’t.

In brief
- The map tiles come from our own servers. Only for the 3D map is the elevation model from Mapterhorn loaded in addition.
- We do not set any cookies for tracking or advertising.
- Fonts are hosted locally; there is no connection to Google Fonts.
- The provider is Top-O-Map TOM GmbH, based in Zellingen, Germany.
- Hosting is provided by netcup GmbH in Karlsruhe, with servers located in the EU.
- When the map loads, the visitor’s IP address is transmitted to our servers.
Where the maps are loaded from
We deliver the map tiles through our own infrastructure. For the topographic map and the relief map, your visitors therefore only connect to us. For the 3D map, the elevation model from tiles.mapterhorn.com, provided by Mapterhorn, is loaded in addition; for technical reasons, the visitor’s IP address is also transmitted to this server. No third-party scripts, tracking pixels or advertising components are loaded.
Hosting and server location: netcup GmbH, Emmy-Noether-Straße 10, 76131 Karlsruhe, Germany. The servers are located within the EU. We have a data processing agreement with netcup in accordance with Art. 28 GDPR.
What data is generated
When a map tile is requested – as with any image loaded from the internet – the visitor’s IP address is transmitted to our server for technical reasons, together with the date, time and the requested tile. This cannot be avoided when delivering image data. We use this information exclusively for technical operation and for billing your quota.
No profiling takes place, and the data is not combined with other sources, passed on to third parties or sold.
Retention period for server logs: 7 days, after which they are deleted automatically. Individual entries are only kept longer if they are needed to investigate a specific attack or misuse.
Usage data for subscriptions: With a subscription, we assign tile requests to your API key in order to check your entitlement to use the service and to manage how much of your quota has been used. We keep this usage data for 90 days after your entitlement ends; after that it is deleted or anonymized, unless we are legally required to retain it.
Cookies
The maps themselves do not set any cookies for tracking or advertising purposes.
Fonts and external services
On this website and in our map application, fonts are loaded locally from our own server. There is no connection to Google Fonts or any other external font provider. For subscriptions, you are redirected to an external payment page hosted by Stripe; you enter your payment details there only. Ko-fi is merely linked on our website – data is only transmitted if you click the link.
